A room-by-room plan for clearing winter dust, condensation marks and clutter without trying to do everything at once.
Plan before you clean
List the rooms in priority order and set aside bags for recycling, donations and rubbish. Removing clutter first gives you clear surfaces and prevents the same objects being moved repeatedly.
Gather cloths, a vacuum, mop and the products suitable for your surfaces. Check product labels, ventilate rooms and never mix cleaning chemicals.
Work from high to low
Start with ceiling corners, light fittings and the tops of cupboards. Dust then falls onto surfaces and floors that you have not cleaned yet.
Finish each room with skirting boards, vacuuming and mopping. In kitchens and bathrooms, allow suitable products the recommended contact time before wiping them away.
Jobs worth adding to the list
Wash removable textiles according to their care labels, wipe window frames and clean behind movable furniture. Check extractor covers and vents for dust build-up.
If the whole list feels too large, spread it across several days or book a one-off deep clean for the most time-consuming areas.
