A practical guide to planning school cleaning

How to structure daily routines, holiday deep cleans and clear cleaning specifications for education settings.
Map the building by use
Classrooms, washrooms, dining areas, corridors and offices have different demands. Record the tasks and frequency for each space rather than relying on a single general instruction.
Identify high-touch surfaces and busy times, then plan work around pupils, staff and site access requirements.
Use closures for periodic work
School holidays can provide time for detailed floor care, high-level dusting and deep cleaning that would disrupt a normal day.
Confirm which areas will remain in use by clubs, contractors or staff so cleaning and access plans stay realistic.
Keep responsibilities clear
The cleaning specification should state who supplies consumables, manages keys, reports damage and checks standards. Product storage and use must follow the school's safety procedures.
Review the schedule when room use, pupil numbers or timetables change.
