Move-in cleaning checklist: what to clean before unpacking
Space Cleaners team · 6 June 2026 · 7 min read
Use an empty property to your advantage with this practical kitchen, bathroom and whole-home checklist.
Clean before boxes fill the rooms
An empty property makes it easier to reach cupboard interiors, wardrobe shelves, skirting boards and floors. Photograph any existing damage or cleanliness concerns before you begin if you are renting.
Ventilate the property and check care information for flooring, worktops and appliances before applying products.
Kitchen and bathroom priorities
Clean inside empty cupboards and drawers, then work down to counters and floors. Check the oven, fridge and extractor, and only reconnect or use appliances in line with their instructions.
In bathrooms, clean and descale suitable surfaces, including taps, shower screens and tiles. Disinfect touchpoints such as handles and flush controls.
A final whole-home check
Wipe switches, handles, window sills and reachable shelves. Vacuum carpets and clean hard floors before furniture arrives.
If you are booking a move-in clean, explain whether the property is empty and list any appliances or add-ons you want included so the quote reflects the work.
