A room-by-room list of what letting agents usually check before returning a deposit.
Start with the kitchen
Inventory checks almost always begin here. Clean inside the oven, hob, extractor hood, fridge and freezer. Empty every cupboard and wipe inside, including shelves and doors.
Descale the sink and taps, and degrease tiles and splashbacks.
Bathrooms
Remove limescale from shower screens, taps and tiles. Clean behind the toilet and under the bath panel edge where accessible.
Don't forget the extractor fan cover and mirrors.
Living areas and bedrooms
Wipe skirting boards, doors, frames, light switches and sockets. Clean inside wardrobes and drawers, and vacuum under beds once furniture is moved.
Spot-clean walls where scuffs are visible.
Floors and finishing
Vacuum and mop all hard floors. Consider professional carpet cleaning if your tenancy agreement requires it.
Finally, take dated photos of each room for your own records.
