Landlord changeover cleaning: a practical property checklist
Space Cleaners team · 29 January 2026 · 7 min read
How landlords and property managers can prepare an empty home for inspection and the next tenancy.
Inspect before arranging the clean
Record the condition of each room and separate cleaning from repairs, rubbish removal and maintenance. An empty property allows a more accurate scope.
Share the inventory or checkout report where relevant, while keeping deposit decisions separate from the cleaner's role.
Cover the commonly checked areas
Include appliance interiors, empty cupboards, bathroom limescale, window sills, skirting boards and floors. Confirm whether carpets and external windows need separate treatment.
Check keys, utilities and access times so the team can complete the work without delays.
Document the result
Inspect the property after cleaning and take dated photographs for your records. Report maintenance issues to the right contractor before a new tenant moves in.
For repeat properties, use a standard checklist but adjust it to the condition and contents of each home.
