How to tackle bathroom limescale safely

A careful guide to removing mineral deposits from taps, tiles and shower screens without damaging finishes.
Identify the surface first
A product suitable for glass may not suit natural stone, plated taps or some sealants. Check manufacturer guidance and test an inconspicuous area.
Wear the protection stated on the label, ventilate the room and never mix cleaning products.
Allow the right contact time
Apply an appropriate descaler as directed, keeping it away from incompatible surfaces. Give it the stated time to work rather than scrubbing immediately with an abrasive tool.
Rinse thoroughly and dry the surface to reduce fresh water marks.
Reduce future build-up
Wiping wet screens and taps after use slows mineral deposits. Include edges, fittings and grout in a regular bathroom routine.
Heavy or widespread build-up may need a professional deep clean, although permanent etching or damaged finishes cannot always be restored.
